Planned for Fall 2026 after Joystick opens in EAV
No experience required · Everything provided
Four new players will face the mission together while an experienced Commander teaches every rule as it becomes useful.
You do not need to own miniatures, read a rulebook, build an army, or know what any of the jargon means. We will have a fully prepared table waiting.
The featured learning table is built for four recruits and one Commander. The recruits share one squad of Plague Marines; the Commander sets up the terrain, objectives, enemy models, tokens, and reference materials before play begins.
The mission is planned for the Fall 2026 launch. Follow Meetup for the exact date, RSVP, and capacity notice.
Joint Ops is Kill Team’s cooperative player-versus-environment mode. Instead of beginning with a competitive match against another new player, everyone at the learning table works toward the same objective.
The enemy models are called NPOs: non-player operatives. “Operative” is simply Kill Team’s word for one miniature in the battle. NPOs follow behaviors in the mission rules that tell them how to move, choose targets, and attack.
For this event, the Commander will run those NPOs for you. They will still follow the published Tomb World rules, but the Commander handles the enemy decisions and dice so the four recruits can focus on their own operatives, the story, and learning at a comfortable pace.
There is no opponent waiting to punish a beginner mistake and no expectation that you memorize every option. The Commander can pause the action, answer questions, demonstrate a rule, and rewind a misunderstanding. The goal is to finish knowing how Kill Team feels and wanting another game.
Mission order // Artifact recovery
You are Plague Marines: corrupted superhuman soldiers, now servants of Nurgle, the plague god. Your armor is ruined, your bodies are worse, and still you advance.
Beneath a dead world lies a sealed Necron tomb complex. Somewhere in its lightless passages waits a mysterious artifact promised to your patron. Your squad has been sent underground to take it.
Then the tomb begins to wake.
Ancient systems ignite in radioactive green. Doors grind open. Soulless automata rise from alcoves where they have waited for ages without number. The deeper you push, the more of the sleeping alien defenses answer the alarm.
Find the artifact. Break the machines that guard it. Carry Nurgle’s prize back into the dark.
Learn movement, positioning, orders, and how terrain shapes the battlefield.
The first sentries activate. Learn shooting, defense dice, damage, and cover.
Coordinate the squad, fight at close range, and choose when to take a risk for the mission.
Complete the objective together before the awakening tomb overwhelms your position.
These official Games Workshop resources will be available at the table. Reading them is optional; they are here for anyone who likes to see the machinery before the mission starts.
